Harry Potter, J.K. Rowling and my many friends who are only a page turn away have always made me feel accepted. Harry Potter has touched so many lives, adults and children. J.K. Rowling created a beautiful world that makes up for the inadequacies of the real lives of so many people. I was one of those people. I had an epiphany today; quite appropriate since today the Hogwarts Express leaves Platform 9 ¾ to make its way to Hogwarts.
It is because of Harry Potter that I started reading ‘big books’ when I had a lower reading level than the other kids in my second grade class. The magical world I discovered between the pages of this series set my imagination free. J.K. Rowling inspired me to work towards my dream of becoming a writer. It was because of this fandom that I became unafraid to put myself forward, to share what I write and even just to talk to people I’d have never even considered looking twice at.
I’m glad that Harry Potter exists. I don’t even mind being a muggle, I’m just glad I had the experience. And my life would be a dark, boring place without the spark of magic these books gave me.
