Right throughout my life, I didn’t get how people had friends only in Harry Potter characters. That is until I started at university. Being in a place where there’s over a thousand people in your classes, whilst taking a course that none of your friends are meant that I turned to fictional characters and worlds, specifically Harry Potter, more and more. And it’s been wonderful to have a reliable source of friendship and love. Even if it is just in Harry Potter.

When I was younger, I used to get bullied. I didn’t really have any close friends, and so books became my escape. I got so absorbed in my books that I felt like I was living another, better life. It made me feel better. Some of the books that I always came back to were the Harry Potter books. They taught me so much about love and friendship, and I knew that if Ginny could get through her possession, if Harry could survive after Sirius died, if George could live on after the death of Fred, then I could get through whatever life threw at me. Believe me, I’ve been dealt some crappy cards, but Harry, Ron, Hermione, Ginny, Neville, Luna, and all of the others were always there. And for that, I thank Jo Rowling with all of my heart. Because I know that no matter what, Hogwarts will always be there to welcome me home.
And for those who think Luna and Harry should have been cannon because they were “SO” alike, no. Just no. Luna never could have made him truly happy, and that’s what Harry deserved. After everything he went through, he deserved to be happy, and Ginny could do that. That’s what Jo believed, and that’s good enough for me. I may be coming off a little mean, and I don’t mean to. It’s just my opinion. You have every right to ship Harry and Luna, but when I see people saying Luna would have been a better cannon love for him it just makes me sad. Keep your ships to the fan-fiction part of the series. Don’t complain about the books. They’re perfect the way they are, flaws and all.
Not to say that I’d prefer them to be older, I find them more relatable this way. And NOBODY deserves all the horrible things they went through. I just find it astounding that so many characters were able to go through all that so wonderfully. Examples: Harry, Hermione, Ron, Neville, all the Weasleys. And that’s just a few.
