harry potter confessions.

A classic is a classic. Just like when an old person watches their childhood favorites. They loved it then, and they’ll love it until the day they leave this earth.

I hated it there— and with the books I was allowed to be placed inside a place I actually wanted to be. A placed filled with magic and wonder. It made everyday over there a bit more bareable and when I was freed of that place I felt much like Harry once Voldemort was dead, free and happy to live my life. My childhood never died when Harry Potter ended because Harry Potter was my childhood.

When I see people say “I don’t understand why people claim the series saved their lives. It’s pathetic.” It kills me.
Harry Potter saved me so many times. It taught me so many life lessons, and stopped me from feeling so alone. I learned that even when things are bleak, there is always hope.
My childhood was terrible, abusive, and torn. I wanted to honestly stop living, but when I read Harry Potter the world fell away. I felt like I belonged, and I learned that no matter what happens you ARE strong enough to survive. I learned that love and hope can overcome anything. And if you don’t have them, find them. It makes everything worth while.

I know it’s a little harsh, but I just think people are letting the house they’re in become too defining. Sure, I got sorted into a different house than I expected on Pottermore, but, in the grand scheme of things, it’s not important.

Everyone thinks i’ve been a massive Potterhead my whole life— I haven’t. I read the books as they came out but only picked philosopher’s stone back up three years ago. I’ve never been to a book release and i’ve only been to two movie premieres. no one seems to know, not even my mum. (for the record, harry is very dear to my heart now, i’ve read the books and watched the movies several times over since)
